On Beyond the Gates, Vanessa accosted Dr. Ted Richardson straight out of the elevator, and the accusations and verbiage thrown around sounded like projecting. Is Vanessa angry at herself?

Vanessa (Lauren Buglioli) was at Garland Memorial Hospital trying to find her husband Doug (Jason Graham), after the scene at Orphey Gene’s, where he left Joey (Jon Lindstrom) and Vanessa. That didn't go down well at all. Doug once again said Joey Armstrong was getting all too familiar with his wife. Doug left and was audibly irritated. Vanessa, expecting to see Doug, saw Dr. Ted Richardson (Keith D. Robinson) come out of the elevator and immediately set upon him and verbally attacked him for the affair that he had. But was this outburst of anger just a reflection of Vanessa’s anger towards herself and how her marriage is? Now I’m not a psychiatrist like Ted’s wife Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix), but from my armchair, it appeared Vanessa was expressing feelings — real ones. But it seemed like Vanessa's opinion could also accurately describe her and Doug, and how their marriage seems to be falling further and further from where it should be.

Unhappy couples

Vanessa has just recently admitted to her husband that she sees other men, and she even said that she hoped Doug saw other women. He replied that there was no one else, but Vanessa knows something is up. She said, "But, we can agree that there IS something else, though.” Doug hasn't (at this stage) told his wife about the gambling addiction that has him in so deep with Joey that he can't see a way out. Nor has Doug told her that Joey has threatened him and wants to use his wife's realty business to launder dirty money. So, knowing what we know, Vanessa’s public verbal attack on Ted wasn’t one hundred percent about Ted and his affair, nor was it about the effect it had on her best friend, Nicole.

Once Ted explained more about the affair and how he very much realized what he had done and deeply regretted it, we see a lone tear streak down Vanessa's right cheek. The words hit very close to home, and Vanessa softened. For Vanessa and Doug, things really are in dangerous territory now, and someone is going to get badly hurt, whether physically, emotionally, or both. We're going to have to wait — but next week, Vanessa gives Doug a reason to worry. And on Thursda, Doug takes a risk with Joey. Hang tight, soap fans, life for the McBrides is about to get bumpier.
