Yellowjackets: Who actually burned down the cabin? Details explored in depth

Paramount+'s thriller drama series Yellowjackets took a shocking turn in the season 2 finale after the group's cabin was burned down and they were left with no shelter, stranded in the chilling weather in the Wilderness.

While Yellowjackets solved many mysteries in season 3, it did not explicitly show who burned down the cabin. However, it was heavily hinted that Coach Ben burned down the cabin after he was threatened that the girls would kill and eat him up like many of their previous friends.

In Yellowjackets Season 3, the group even hunts down Coach Ben and punishes/kills him for burning down their cabin, but the show has yet to reveal who was the real culprit.

The Yellowjackets Season 2 finale hinted that Coach Ben burned down the cabin

With his group's total descent into madness and cannibalism, Coach Ben was not only scared for his life but likely wanted to kill the girls for the path they took to survive the Wilderness. After Javi's death and the group choosing Natalie as their new Antler Queen, the Yellowjackets group was going even further away from their humanity.

After Coach Ben was seen lurking near the cabin with matches in the Season 2 finale, it was hinted that he had burned down the cabin. In addition to this detail, he also saw the group kissing Nat's hand and choosing her as their new Antler Queen, which made his suspicions even stronger.

Since Coach Ben had all the motives to burn the cabin down, it was theorized that he was the culprit and the girls had rightfully killed/punished him in the latest season.

While Yellowjackets has not made it clear, actor Steven Krueger has recently confirmed (with Indie Wire) that he has filmed scenes that show Coach Ben indeed burned down the cabin. While the show has kept this obscurity about its story, Coach Ben does seem guilty at this point.

Krueger was also happy that Coach Ben died in Yellowjackets Season 3, as he explained to Indie Wire:

''I’m glad that Ben wasn’t there by the end. If he was still there, he would certainly be on the hunt right now. He would be running away from these girls as they’re on the verge of being rescued because they know he won’t go along with whatever excuse they’re about to come up with for everything that has happened out there.”

Fan theories suggest that 'Other Tai' burned down the cabin in Yellowjackets

While all circumstantial evidence points to Coach Ben in Yellowjackets, the show is notoriously famous for letting its audience astray. Many fan theories have suggested that 'Other Tai' could also be the culprit.

Tai's sleepwalking alter-ego, Other Tai, was an important element of the story in the latest season, where she took complete control of Tai's body and mind, even spending time with Van in the present timeline.

After the group draws a card to decide who will kill Coach Ben, Tai even gets the queen of hearts, but Van suggests that Other Tai should do the deed, as she is more capable of pulling off dark stunts like killing a person. After this particular scene, many fan theories have suggested that Other Tai could have also burned down the cabin to mess with the girls.

After Van's death in the latest season, the show might expand more on Other Tai's character and reveal her role in the burned cabin.
