Outrageous tells the story of the Mitford sisters and how their choices and refusal to play by the set norms often resulted in scandals and made headlines. Set during the time period of the 1930s, Outrageous consists of 6 episodes, with the latest release being episode 4. The official synopsis of the episode, as per Rotten Tomatoes, mentions,
“Unity finally meets Hitler and embraces Nazi views, appalling her family; Debo falls in love with an older man, andfafter a row with Nancy, Diana drives furiously into the night.”
This episode focuses particularly on Unity as her obsession with fascism gets a little too real for her family to ignore anymore. Despite receiving widespread criticism for her meeting with Hitler and admiring the man, Unity remains unfazed and continues to assert her belief in the fascist ways.
Let us now explore what happened in Outrageous Episode 4 in detail.
Unity meets Hitler in Outrageous Episode 4
When the Mitford family receives a letter from Unity saying that she had lunch with Hitler himself, they initially do not believe it out of shock. However, she is not actually lying, and Diana decides to directly go to Munich and not only talk to Unity but also see if she can also be introduced to Hitler.
As the two sisters meet in Germany, Diana tells Unity how Mosley is sleeping with his sister-in-law. To this, Unity tells her that she would try to introduce Mosley to Hitler, and Diana agrees that it would be a good idea, as it might help him to get away from the sister-in-law.
Unity then proceeds to get some information out of an SS officer and comes to know of a shopgirl named Eva Braun, who clearly has something going on with Hitler but is not publicly acknowledged by the man. Unity also comes to know that Eva does not have any interest or understanding of politics, which shocks her.
To further demonstrate her belief regarding how a woman who is with Hitler should be dedicated to his cause, Unity writes a letter to a German newspaper where she praises the country’s approach to the Jewish situation. The letter naturally causes a stir worldwide, and back at Unity’s home, everyone is shocked that she would go to this extent.
As she comes back home, an ugly confrontation happens, but Unity remains rigid on her views. Nancy refuses to even talk to her, and Diana does not want to intervene. Nancy and Diana also get into an argument regarding their political ideologies, and the former says that her sister has been brainwashed by Mosley. The argument leads to Diana drinking way too much and starting to drive, which results in an accident, and the episode ends on a cliffhanger.
Since the real-life Diana lived to be 93 years old, the show is most likely not going to kill her off. However, the familial damages that have been made in episode 4 will probably be hard to recover from within the remaining two episodes.
