Nine Perfect Strangers Season 2 Episode 6: A brief recap
Episode 6 of Nine Perfect Strangers Season 2 dives deeper into the emotional chaos at the Alpine retreat. This episode drops some intense truth bombs and a shocking twist that nobody saw coming, not even Masha.
The episode opens with Peter discovering her past trauma, which plunges his memories back to his childhood when his parents got divorced. Peter eventually realizes Masha might be the reason behind his parents' divorce, and thus, he chooses to leave the treatment midway. As he frantically searches for his father, he warns the other guests of Masha's evil treatment. However, the guests at the dining table seem quite unbothered. Eventually, Masha selects Matteo for the second phase of the treatment, and Imogen and her mother, Victoria, (unwillingly) volunteer for it.
During the session with Matteo, we saw how his parents, who were teachers, were killed in a drone strike during a war. This gives the viewers a clear answer as to why Matteo panics when he hears the buzzing sound of airplanes. In one of the episode's standout moments, Matteo tells Masha that he is not ready to forget his past; instead, he would like to accept his trauma and face it bravely. Masha respects his decision and stops the treatment.
Meanwhile, when Imogen and Victoria start the session, we see Imogen being plunged into her childhood memories. What started as a lovely memory soon turns dark as we see Imogen's father, the mastermind behind the drones, die by suicide out of guilt and pain. The drones that killed Matteo's parents during the war were made by Imogen's father.
However, Victoria shakes unbearably during the session and collapses. When the doctor arrives at the resort, he explains that she had seizures, and when he inquires about her medical history, Matteo reveals the ultimate truth. Victoria is suffering from ALS (a neurodegenerative disease), and he's not only her boyfriend but also her caregiver. The truth shocks Imogen as she's unable to process that her mother, Victoria, has been fighting her battles secretly.
But the most jaw-dropping twist? Helena, who seemed to be Masha's toughest critic, is nothing more than a hallucination — a creation of Masha's spiralling thoughts. As the retreat descends further into madness, one thing is clear: the real battle is happening inside Masha's mind.
