Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is delivering on fan demand since the finale of Born Again Season 1, bringing back the defenders. While Luke Cage and Iron Fist's return isn't official, Jessica Jones' return, as played by Krysten Ritter, is confirmed. The return has fans excited because, apart from Daredevil, Jessica Jones is the second-most acclaimed series in the Netflix Marvel Universe.

Her return was officially confirmed during Disney's upfront presentation in May 2025. Right on the announcement, Ritter, who shared the stage with her Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 co-star Charlie Cox, expressed happiness and excitement over returning. She said:

“It’s so great to be back, returning to Jessica after three seasons and ‘The Defenders’ and now joining the MCU. I’m so excited to bring back this iconic character, and without giving too much away, there is much more in store for Jessica Jones. This is going to be an incredible season!”

Since then, there have been a few leaked set images with her in character.

It seems Ritter began filming for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 approximately a week after her return was made official. In a leaked image, Jessica is seen conversing with Matt in his new black Daredevil suit. Now, the latest image has Ritter in jeans and a black leather jacket getting out of her car, holding a cup of coffee.

Her inclusion in the upcoming season has fans hopeful that Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 could serve a secret reunion of the street-level superhero team The Defenders, which includes Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones.

While Luke and Danny's return hasn't been confirmed officially, it is worth noting that Mike Colter, who played Luke Cage, posted a Luke Cage artwork on his Instagram Stories a few weeks ago, hinting at a potential return.

Showrunner Dario Scardapane and Marvel executive Brad Winderbaum hinted at a revival of the Defenders

Brad Winderbaum, who has been involved in several Disney+ Marvel shows in the past, sat down for an interview with Entertainment Weekly in February 2025, weeks before the premiere of Born Again Season 1. In that interview, he confirmed that Marvel was considering bringing back the Defenders. Now, considering how the first season concluded and Jessica Jones' return being confirmed in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, Luke Cage and Iron Fist's return might be inevitable.

He was not the only one to hint at a Defenders reunion, though. Even Dario Scardapane played a bit coy during his Entertainment Weekly interview in April 2025, after the release of the finale. When asked about the Defenders, he said:

"Without giving too much away... when you're working in what I would call the Hell's Kitchen corner of the MCU, those iconic characters are always in your mind. The thing is that — and this is kind of hard, I'm trying to thread a needle here — you want to bring in people and relationships and past figures in Matt's life because they help the story, particularly in terms of a story where Fisk has taken over the city. And there is a resistance and a rebellion, so to speak, rising. So there's going to be people, vigilantes, superheroes that are involved in that. There has to be because this is happening to their city. That said, you also want to create a completely organic story for that. So who comes in and why has to be beyond anything earned. So the easiest answer to your question is, yes, those characters that you just listed off are absolutely in my head and everybody's head as we're working. How that manifests itself is both really tricky writing-wise and a pretty closely guarded secret at this point. So I'm being intentionally cagey, but I'm also saying, 'Hell yeah!' in terms of it's something we're thinking about.""

Now that Jessica Jones is officially returning in Born Again Season 2, the stage might be set for a Defenders reunion, this time to bring down Mayor Wilson Fisk's oppressive regime.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is expected to release somewhere in March 2026.
