ABC has unveiled the official trailer for The Rookie Season 8, the upcoming chapter of its beloved police procedural, which premieres on January 6.

The 2-minute trailer reintroduces the Mid-Wilshire division of the LAPD, who will return to duty on an International case. The clip is filled with many exciting teases, a potential Chenford reunion, the return of two major antagonists and changing dynamics within the team and personal lives.

The Rookie Season 8 will mark the return of Nathan Fillion as John Nolan, alongwith the main ensemble cast of Alyssa Diaz as Angela, Mekia Cox as Nyla, Richard T. Jones as Grey, Melissa O'Neil as Lucy, Eric Winter as Tim, Jenna Dewan as Bailey, Shawn Ashmore as Wesley, Deric Augustine as Miles, Lisseth Chavez as Celina and Bridget Regan as Monica.

An International mission and the exciting return of two major antagonists

The Rookie Season 8 is going International as the upcoming chapter of ABC's procedural will take Nyla, Nolan and Bailey to Prague, where they will help the FBI take down a major trafficking operation. This is one of the most exciting teases in the recently released trailer, which suggests that the LAPD will team up with the FBI to take down a notorious arms dealer, with the corrupt lawyer, Monica's help.

That's right, the menacing redhead will be back in the upcoming season, as an ally to the FBI and LAPD. While Monica claims she has changed her ways, Nolan and Bailey know better. As expected, the final moments of the trailer suggest Monica will escape, again. Here we go again!

Talking about returning antagonists, Monica is not the only major villain making a comeback in The Rookie Season 8. The 2-minute clip also features Oscar Hutchinson, the notorious criminal who will cross paths with Nolan again.

Chenford reunion?

The news all The Rookie fans are eagerly waiting for! A Chenford reunion. If that heartbreaking scene from the Season 7 finale, where Tim asked Lucy to move in with him but she was already asleep on the couch, still keeps you up at night, we have good news. Tim will finally ask Lucy to move in with him again, and luckily, the newly-appointed Sergeant will be awake this time. While this felt like a positive evolution for Chenford in The Rookie Season 8, Lucy replies:

''You broke my heart, the scar is so deep it may never fade.”

And with this single line, Lucy broke all Chenford hearts. However, in an interview with TV Guide, showrunner Alexi Hawley teased that Chenford might get together in the upcoming season but not before having a proper real talk and solving their complicated issues.

While our favorite ship is slowly sailing in The Rookie Season 8, the show's most stable romantic couple is having trouble in their paradise. The recently released trailer teases infidelity in Luna and Grey's marriage after the latter sees his wife getting close to a doctor at the hospital.
