FBI Season 8 finally returned on CBS as the critically acclaimed police procedural on the network. Considering the shocking Season 7 finale, where the FBI SAC Isobel Castille's fate was hanging in the balance, the hiatus was too long. However, the show made up with an intense and shocking premiere.

FBI Season 8 Episode 1 began three days after the Season 7 finale, where Isobel was critically injured in an explosion. While things were naturally not looking good for her, she still had hope. Isobel's husband revealed to Jubal and her team that she has suffered an internal brain bleed and will be taken to an eight-hour-long surgery.

While Isobel literally fought between life and death, her team was assigned a missing judge's case, who was looking for his son. The team managed to find the son, but the episode ended in tragedy for a beloved FBI agent.

Here is the complete FBI Season 8 Episode 1 recap.

Jubal fills in for Isobel in FBI Season 8 Episode 1

While Isobel is wheeled into her surgery, Jubal is made the temporary SAC by the director in FBI Season 8 Episode 1.

Meanwhile, Maggie and OA get on the case of the missing judge and suspect that his disappearance is linked to the BTG group, as he was currently overseeing their case. They also learn that the judge was looking for his son Eli, who went missing two days ago.

While Scola and Rhodes head out to question some BTG members about their possible connection with the judge, Maggie and OA track Eli's car. They manage to find the car but it's too late. The suspect is setting fire to the vehicle, with somebody trapped inside. As Maggie and OA arrest the suspect, they discover the judge's partially burned body inside the car.

Maggie and OA are made hostages in FBI Season 8 Episode 1

After the judge's body is found in FBI Season 8 Episode 1, the team becomes hyperactive in tracking Eli. Maggie and OA head to Port Turner, the town from which the judge went missing. They meet the town's mayor Caleb and learn that the island town is only connected to the mainland via a bridge. The community is deprived of critical services and lives in seclusion. Caleb also reveals that they have been experiencing armed robberies by outsiders, which has forced them to increase security.

After Maggie and OA show them the warrants, they are allowed to search houses. That is when the duo discovers Eli tied in a basement of one of the houses. Maggie realises that something is very wrong in this town and calls Jubal for backup. She warns Caleb to let them pass with Eli but he maintains that Eli is a suspect in arson and robberies and hence, they cannot let them pass. He orders his men to blow up the bridge and take Maggie and OA as hostages.

FBI Season 8 Episode 1 saw a tragic death

The FBI Season 8 premiere had an ominous feel and it was suggested that the team would likely bid goodbye to one of its members. While all eyes were on Isobel, it was revealed that she pulled through her surgery. Isobel was finally given the all-clear by her doctors, but it doesn't mean that the latest episode did not feature a tragic death.

After Maggie and OA were taken hostage in a secluded town, Scola and Rhodes took boats to reach the island and rescue their fellow agents. After the two agents arrive, a violent shootout ensues on the island. Caleb's men open fire and Scola was about to get shot when Rhodes jumped in front of him and took the bullet to her vest.

After Scola and Rhodes reveal to Caleb that the armed robberies were an inside job by a man named Dustin, the mayor is shocked. Dustin tries to get away but Rhodes shoots him and the day is saved. Or is it?

This was where the FBI Season 8 premiere threw a major curveball and revealed that Rhodes did not take a bullet to her vest, but to her abdomen, which was bleeding badly. She kept this information from Scola and her fellow agents to not jeopardise the case. By the time the team discovered Rhodes' wound, it was too late and she succumbed to her injuries and died on the scene.

FBI Season 8 will premiere weekly episodes every Monday on CBS.
