Whitney Way Thore has been the star of My Big Fat Fabulous Life for 13 seasons now and has come a long way in her weight loss journey. Recently sharing on her Instagram, she has revealed a 100-pound drop in her weight, which marks progress; however, Whitney says that she is "still very fat."

This information came to light when fans were curious about her health and had noticed a significant change in her appearance. They thought that she had undergone surgery to lose weight. However, denying those claims, Whitney wrote that she has not and does not like to talk about her weight much. She said,

"I hate addressing this, but no, I have not had medical intervention to lose weight. In 2015 (season 1), I weighed 385 pounds. In 2018, I lost 50 pounds. When my mom got sick and eventually died, I lost 50 more. I weigh 285 pounds and I have been this weight for almost a year now.

Continuing, she added,

This is the second time in my life I’ve lost 100 pounds. I’m still very fat. Thank you for the compliments, but I really don’t like obsessing over my body and I don’t like it when others do it either. 💜"

Whitney Thore's journey on My Big Fat Fabulous Life

Whitney Thore started filming My Big Fat Fabulous Life with TLC in 2015. This was the time when she gained over 200 pounds. The star was just in college and was diagnosed with PCOS, a condition that causes hormonal imbalance and unusual weight gain. The series follows her around in her everyday life.

However, Whitney said that she does not like to talk about her weight because it is not in her nature to obsess over her body. Given the fact that she is in the public eye with the show, Whitney says that it has brought people's attention to her weight even more.

Whitney started off with 385 pounds in 2015 on My Big Fat Fabulous Life. This was the time that she was actively trying to shed the weight off of her, but nothing was working well. Thus, in 2018, Whitney announced that she had stopped focusing on her weight loss. But this was when she made the most progress. She shared,

"I said that I don’t want to focus on weight loss, I don’t want to weigh myself, I just want to get in here and move. And for the first time in my entire life, I’ve actually lost weight without trying, which is pretty wild, because that’s never happened to me ever."

Right now, in 2025, Whitney is 285 pounds, 100 pounds lighter than what she started with 10 years ago on My Big Fat Fabulous Life, and is happy. She says she works out because she enjoys it and not to achieve something.

Apart from that, Whitney has also revealed not undergoing any sort of surgery to cut the weight off of her and says that everything was natural. Her mantra right now is working on "confidence" first.
