Euphoria Season 3 might finally give fans something they never expected: a storyline reportedly being built around two of the main characters, Rue and Maddy.
Reports say the new season will highlight their journeys while also looking through their unexpected connection with each other.
While the two co-stars haven't shared much screen time before apart from the "Rue?????? when was this?" iconic scene that had the entire internet gagging, Season 3 could perhaps change that dynamic between the two.
Maddy's world seems to be expanding beyond high school, and Rue's road through recovery is still filled with questions. Together, they could shape the core of Euphoria Season 3.

Rue’s road forward and a darker tone for Euphoria Season 3
Rue's story is far from over, and Euphoria Season 3 is expected to go even deeper into the chaos that surrounds her. A time jump of about five years is reportedly in store, which would place Rue and the rest of the characters in early adulthood.

This time jump could open up space to look at how Rue manages to stay sober outside the safety of high school.
As Zendaya herself told The Hollywood Reporter in 2022;
"I want to see what Rue looks like in her sobriety journey, how chaotic that might look."
Series creator Sam Levinson has also teased a shift in tone for Season 3. In an interview with ELLE back in 2023, he described the third season as leaning into "film noir" territory. He added that Rue's arc would explore'
"...what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world."
These clues hint at a darker and much more introspective season, where Rue's choices and internal battles could push the story into new territory.
There's still the lingering issue of her $10,000 drug debt to Laurie, the dealer she once promised to repay. With her relationship with Jules fractured and the drugs flushed down the toilet, how she handles that situation may be a major threat.
Filming has already begun, and leaked shots show Zendaya's Rue looking as troubled as ever. There's clearly more storm ahead.
Maddy reportedly steps into the spotlight and possibly into Rue’s world for Season 3
Alexa Demie's Maddy is also reportedly expected to have a much larger role in Euphoria Season 3.
While she was mostly on the sidelines in Season 2 with the Nate x Cassie storyline, new developments suggest she'll be front and center now.
Based on leaked production details for Season 3, Maddy may find herself in a completely new setting, surrounded by a circle of glamorous yet mysterious women, including Rosalía's character, who appears connected to Maddy's post-grad lifestyle.
Another major detail for Euphoria Season 3? Gone are those days with Nate and now Maddy is once again reportedly in a relationship with a man known only as "Alamo Brown," who owns a nightclub called the Silver Slipper. This new love interest might pull her deeper into adult spaces where power, image, and control all collide.
Interestingly, it's said that Maddy will introduce Alamo to Rue, hinting that their storylines won't just run side by side but might overlap in powerful ways.
Filming images from Euphoria Season 3 also show Maddy and Cassie riding in a vintage car, possibly reflecting a time jump and a shift in priorities.
With Maddy possibly getting more screen time this season and a whole different world to explore outside of High School, Season 3 could show us how much she's grown...or how much she still hides behind all of the glam.
Euphoria Season 3 is gearing up to be a turning point, with Rue and Maddy reportedly being at the center. Whether their worlds mix quietly or explode together remains to be seen as and when the show drops on HBO.
But one thing's clear: whether the main plot revolves around them or not, these two will have a season that looks very different from anything we've seen before for these characters.
