Survival Mode is a gripping new limited docuseries from NBC News Studios and the producers of Dateline, centered around true accounts of real natural disasters—told directly by the people who lived through them.
The official synopsis, according to NBC, reads,
"Survival Mode follows everyday people through the most harrowing moments of their lives, when every split-second decision can mean the difference between life and death."
The series recounts nine catastrophic events, each showcasing the raw terror of tornadoes, wildfires, floods, and other disasters on extremes. It includes first-person testimonies from survivors with voiceover narration, raw video, and recreations, exploring their instincts and decisions that have led to their survival.

Episode 1 of Survival Mode, titled Hurricane Ian, tells the story of a 2022 natural disaster that was Florida's deadliest hurricane since 1935. It was responsible for over 150 deaths, a catastrophic category 4 storm. It devastated Fort Myers Beach, transforming it into what the show calls a “post-apocalyptic wasteland."
