Anne Burrell passed away at her Brooklyn residence on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. However, days before her unexpected demise, the celebrity chef posted a relatively wholesome post on Instagram.
In her last upload on the platform, Burrell was seen posing for a selfie with Elizabeth Eaton Rosenthal, better known as The Green Lady of Brooklyn. Anne shared her excitement upon meeting the neighborhood legend, as she wrote,
“I ran into @greenladyofbrooklyn in my neighborhood today!! I’m not going to lie- I have been keeping an eye out for her. I may or may not have followed her down the street for a minute. She is just lovely!!! #ilovewhatido #luckygirl 💚💚💚”
The Green Lady’s initial response was equally heartwarming, as she commented,
“Hi Ann 💚 it was so much fun meeting you 💚 see you again soon in the neighborhood 💚 the only thing I make is coffee and fig preserves from my fig tree 💚 love and hugs 💚 Elizabeth 💚😘💚”

For those unaware, Rosenthal (aka Elizabeth Sweetheart) is a Canadian-American artist who dons an all-green attire while sporting green hair. According to Manhattan-based Patch Media, Sweetheart started dressing in different shades of green during the 1990s.
The 84-year-old has continued to showcase her love for the color to date. The Green Lady of Brooklyn is also a printmaker in the garment industry, per the New York Post.
Per Patch Media, she hails from the Canadian town of Nova Scotia and studied fine arts at Mount Allison University under Alex Colville, a celebrated painter. Sweetheart reportedly hitchhiked to NYC in ‘64, where she currently resides.
According to the New York Post, Sweetheart met her partner, Robert, at a currently defunct Ukrainian restaurant in the East Village in 1966, and both have been married for more than five decades.
During an interview with This Morning in 2024, Elizabeth opened up about her choice of color. Talking to the hosts, Sweetheart asserted that she found green “to be the happiest” and added,
“[Green] made everybody happy and it's easy to live with. It’s just wonderful.”
Talking about using green in her daily life, she continued,
“I wake up in the morning, and it's very happy and pleasing, and I make my coffee in a green coffee maker; my grinder is green. It's just a green world.”
During the conversation, Elizabeth Sweetheart revealed that it wasn’t a deliberate choice but something that happened over 25 years, referring to turning everything green. Speaking about her partner’s reaction, Rosenthal claimed that he “really enjoys it.”

The Secrets of a Restaurant Chef host’s death was unexpected and received much attention on social media. Many, including Elizabeth Sweetheart, commented on the Food Network presenter’s last Instagram post to pay tribute. The Green Lady added another comment addressing Anne Burrell.
“Hi Anne 💚 you are such a lovely person just to meet and not knowing you 💚 I just love you and so sorry but come to my garden and visit with all your beauty and love and I will be waiting for you 💚💚💚😘💚💚💚”
Elizabeth’s comment was in reference to her recent invitation to Anne Burrell. She had previously written under the chef’s Instagram post,
“Hi Ann 💚 I would like to invite you to my garden and pick figs when they are ready 💚 usually beginning to ripen beginning September, and come and visit the garden on a sunny day anyway 💚😘💚”
For those unaware, Anne Burrell was found unresponsive at her NYC home on Tuesday at 07:50 am, police told People. The authorities also confirmed that the Worst Cooks in America co-host was pronounced dead at her residence. According to People, Anne Burrell died hours after her improv show at Brooklyn’s The Second City New York.
