"I've always approached it with just a sense of humor": Kyle MacLachlan opens up about his social media era

Kyle MacLachlan is currently one of the most discussed figures in the internet scene. His works on Instagram and TikTok have made him known to an audience that might not have grown up watching Twin Peaks or Sex and the City.

Kyle MacLachlan's online videos are relatively playful. He dances, lip-syncs, jokes, collaborates, and more. He has notably earned millions of followers and millions of likes. The internet has labeled him a kind of "dad figure."

MacLachlan recently opened up to PEOPLE about his online presence, stating,

"It really started in earnest when I was promoting this little podcast I did called Varnamtown … We started to do some funny off-the-wall promotions, and I said, 'We should do more of this.'"

He also added:

"Then we did the Lorde video [in June]. And I have always approached it with just a sense of humor, of fun. I am trying to shine a light on things and on people and really bring kind of some joy."

Kyle MacLachlan talked about his son Callum's role in his social media activities, speaking:

"My son will comment and say, 'Less of this, Dad. More of this.' He is a good guy because he is in the trenches, obviously, but I think he is responding more in the positive than in the negative, so it is pretty good. I am a little cringey but not terribly."

Sharing more about his social media presence, the Twin Peaks actor stated:

"I work with some clever people, it is not just me. I work with a team and they are very clever, and they really get my sense of humor. I have always been a silly person, and I am letting that side of me out a little bit more as I get older, and that is just all kind of culminating in this really fun, fun thing that is going on right now."

Kyle MacLachlan's interest in performance came through local theater. His formal training took place at the University of Washington's Professional Actor Training Program. He graduated in 1986.

His film debut came with a relatively small role in The Changeling in 1980. His first major break came in 1984 when he was cast as Paul Atreides in David Lynch's Dune.

More recently, Kyle MacLachlan has worked in Prime Video's Fallout, where he plays Overseer Hank MacLean. Season two of Fallout is officially set to premiere on December 17, 2025.

It is worth noting that one of the recurring themes in MacLachlan's social media activities is his role as a father. He and his wife, producer Desiree Gruber, share a son, Callum. Kyle recently spoke about his son in a press statement, sharing:

"There is a specific kind of joy that happens when your son is home with you, either if they are coming home and they arrive, or they are there in the house with you, it just feels complete. He will always be around, and we will know where he is, but it will be different."

As of 2025, Kyle MacLachlan's estimated net worth is $10 million.
