The Foo Fighters are celebrating their three-decade anniversary and have released a new track titled "Today's Song." The song is their first original material since the 2023 album “But Here We Are” and comes after the band released the cover of “I Don’t Wanna Hear It,” a song that was admittedly 30 years in the making.

The new track, "Today's Song," chronicles the Foo Fighters' journey through three decades of existence and has been met with much enthusiasm on social media as well. The track's release was accompanied by an open letter written by the band's frontman, Dave Grohl, who recently admitted to having relations outside of his marriage.

Grohl also commented on the song, giving the interpretation, as well as thanking the fans in the statement released on social media. He also dedicated a word to the late Taylor Hawkins, who passed away in 2022. The message stated:

"Over the years, we’ve had moments of unbridled joy, and moments of devastating heartbreak. Moments of beautiful victory, and moments of painful defeat. We have mended broken bones and broken hearts. But we have followed this road together, with each other, for each other, no matter what. Because in life, you just can’t go it alone."

The statement further added:

"It should go without saying that without the boundless energy of William Goldsmith, the seasoned wisdom of Franz Stahl, and the thunderous wizardry of Josh Freese, this story would be incomplete, so we extend our heartfelt gratitude for the time, music, and memories that we shared with each of them over the years. Thank you, gentlemen. And… Taylor. Your name is spoken every day, sometimes with tears, sometimes with a smile, but you are still in everything we do, everywhere we go, forever. The enormity of your beautiful soul is only rivaled by the infinite longing we feel in your absence. We all miss you beyond words. Foo Fighters will forever include Taylor Hawkins in every note that we play, until we do finally reach our destination."

Foo Fighters - a brief history

The Foo Fighters band was founded by former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl in 1994, and their debut album was almost entirely of Dave's making. He featured heavily on all the tracks from the album (which was aptly titled Foo Fighters) and helped the album become a big success when it was released in July 1995.

The album featured memorable songs like “This Is a Call,” “I’ll Stick Around,” and “Big Me” and instantly became a smashing hit upon its release. There were a total of 12 songs in the album. The live debut of the band involved the names Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, William Goldsmith, and Pat Smear, and it took place in Seattle on February 19, 1995.

Since the inception of the band, there have been quite a few milestones that the band has reached, including an absurd 15 Grammys. Their journey hasn’t been without its share of drama, lineup changes, and controversies, yet they are still looking very good moving into their fourth decade. They are also going to be headlining a series of international concerts in the near future, and the response to the band returning to the stage will be keenly awaited.
