Ahead of the release of her fourth album, V**gin, Lorde has taken to social media to announce the impending release of yet another track from the album, Hammer. This move comes only a few weeks after she had released Man of the Year, which will also be included in the upcoming album.
The news was accompanied by a cover art of the song depicting Lorde leaning over a sink, washing her face, while droplets of water are seen in the photo. She has her hair partly tied, and as one observes her through the mirror, it creates multiple reflections of her posture in the background. Lorde shared the photo with a neat caption that said:
"Hammer. Last song before V**gin. First song on the album. An ode to city life and h**niness tbh."
Hammer is set to be the opening salvo of her upcoming album and will set the tone for the rest of the album. The caption also suggests that the song will capture experiences of self-discovery that Lorde has undergone over the past few years, as it follows the general theme of V**gin. Though the artist has not set a specific day for the release of the song, the news has brought a great deal of interest on the social media forums.
Everything we know about Lorde's upcoming album V**gin
Lorde's last album, Solar Power, was released four years ago. This long hiatus was the time of a major personal transformation of the artist, which is fuelling her art now. Amid the frenzy around the album, the singer has been drip-feeding fans with tracks from V**gin, one step at a time. She had already released two tracks before the announcement of Hammer's impending release.
In an interview conducted by Rolling Stone previously, Lorde has given fans a hint about her motivation behind the upcoming album:
"There’s going to be a lot of people who don’t think I’m a good girl anymore, a good woman. It’s over. It will be over for a lot of people, and then for some people, I will have arrived. I’ll be where they always hoped I’d be... I went through a breakup. It was so painful, as they are, but there was real dignity to it and grace and a lot of respect. It continues to be a relationship that I cherish."
She then went on to add:
"This is going to sound crazy, but I said to myself, 'We get it. You're smart. You don't need to telegraph it.' Whereas in the past, I'm really trying to craft these lyrics. This time I was like, 'No, be smart enough to let it be really basic. Be plain with language and see what happens.' I'm very vibes-based. I just have to trust when my intuition says to keep moving."
V**gin is set to drop on June 27, and its official tracklist includes 11 songs. With the release of V**gin only a couple of days away, fans can expect Hammer to drop in the next couple of days, if not sooner.
