Bad Bunny took to his official Instagram account on September 29, 2025, to announce that he would head the 2026 Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show.
He wrote on Instagram:
“Super Bowl LX. Bay Area. February 2026. #AppleMusicHalftime.”
Jay Z backed up Bunny’s announcement and supported his performance.
“What Benito has done and continues to do for Puerto Rico is truly inspiring. We are honored to have him on the world’s biggest stage.”
Immediately after he broke the news, the Puerto Rican singer became the target of severe criticism. Several Americans claimed he was anti-American. They added that his songs were in Spanish, a language they didn't understand, so they could not enjoy them.
Even the President of the United States of America, President Donald Trump, had something to say.
“I’ve never heard of him. I don’t know who he is… I don’t know why they’re doing it. It’s, like, crazy. And then they blame it on some promoter they hired to pick up entertainment. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous.”
During his recent appearance on SNL, Bad Bunny addressed the backlash he has faced so far.
“You might not know this, but I’m doing the Super Bowl Halftime Show. And I’m very happy, and I think everybody’s happy about it—even Fox News!” he began and continued in Spanish.
“Especially all of the Latinos and Latinas in the world here in the United States who have worked to open doors. It’s more than a win for myself, it’s a win for all of us. Our footprints and our contribution in this country, no one will ever be able to take that away or erase it.”
He added in English:
“And, if you didn’t understand know what I just said, you have four months to learn!”
