American actor Anthony Greary passed away on December 14, due to complications that arose after he went through a surgery. Before the actor passed away, he revealed one of his fears related to his obituary. The 78-year-old actor who played the role of Luke Spencer on General Hospital said:

"I have almost, but not quite, come to grips with the fact that my obituary is going to read: 'Anthony Geary, Luke of Luke-and-Laura, died today.'"

The hyphenated couple name, Luke-and-Laura, started because of his character, Luke Spencer, on General Hospital. Eventually, in the show, Luke and Laura got married, and it became one of TV's most watched wedding. According to Radar Online, there were approximately 30 million viewers who tuned in for Laura and Luke's wedding in November 1981.

Anthony Greary was on General Hospital from 1978 to 1984, and again from 1993. till 2015. The actor even made a guest appearance in 2017. However, Greary is not too happy about how he is known simply by this one character, despite having acted in many films and TV shows.

He has made it no secret to the public. Ten years ago, right before leaving General Hospital, Greary said:

"I just get really tired of the whole Luke-and-Laura thing... Genie (Laura Webber) and I have both been dragging the corpse of that relationship around for 30 years."

Anthony Greary continued to elaborate on how much it bothered him by saying:

"Being hyphenated as Luke-and-Laura has been a real pain in the a**... It irritated me... Every time I was introduced anywhere in the last 33 years, they'd run the clip of the f**king wedding."

However, the dream fictional "supercouple" finally divorced in 2001. Greary's left the show in 2015, and Luke Spencer was seen sailing into the fog.

After leaving the show, Anthony Greary had some harsh things to say about the show he was on for more than three decades. Greary began:

"Being in an industry where an actor's resume is less important than how he looks with his shirt off or how many Facebook followers he has. That is abhorrent to me… I feel bad for all the young [actors]. They don't have a clue how to survive in this rat-infested jungle."

One of the reasons why Greary left the show was because he was asked to give up his right to rewrite Luke Spencer's dialogues, something they agreed to when he signed the contract. He spoke on the matter, saying:

"After all my years with this character, I’m not about to let some new hire tell me how Luke would express an idea or emotion."

Anthony Geary passed away at 78 and is best known for playing Luke Spencer on General Hospital. Although the Luke-and-Laura storyline was hugely popular, he felt frustrated about being remembered only for that role. Despite his success, Geary openly criticized the TV industry and left the show on his own terms.

Anthony Greary's passing was announced by his husband, Claudio Gama, who said in a statement:

"It was a shock for me, our families, and our friends. For more than 30 years, Tony has been my friend, my companion, my husband."
