More on what Arnold Schwarzenegger said about his rivalry with Sylvester Stallone
In the interview with Andy Cohen, Schwarzenegger spoke about how he and Sylvester hated each other to begin with. He said:
''We were kind of attacking each other and doing nasty things and saying nasty things about each other and all these stupid things.''
He then went on to explain how they reconciled because of a business venture. He said that the turning point in their rivalry came when he co-invested in Planet Hollywood, a Hollywood-themed restaurant chain.
He said that one day he received a call from his lawyer, who also happened to be Sylvester's lawyer. Explaining that incident, he said:
''All of a sudden, I started working with Robert Earl and Keith Parish to create the Planet Hollywood franchise, those restaurants. The next thing I know is I get a phone call from my lawyer, who was also Sly’s lawyer, he said, ‘Arnold, is there any kind of room for Sly in Planet Hollywood?’ ”
He then replied, saying:
''That’s actually a good idea, because it could bring us together. And I wanted that. At that point, I had grown out of my craziness.”
Schwarzenegger said that he took this to be an opportunity to end the hatred they had towards each other. The restaurant chain then started in New York and was backed by Schwarzenegger and Sylvester. They were later joined by other Hollywood A-listers including Bruce Willis, Whoopi Goldberg, and Chuck Norris.
Schwarzenegger and Sylvester had discussed their old rivalry in a joint interview for the special TMZ Presents Arnold & Sly: Rivals, Friends, Icons, aired in April 2024. In the interview, Sylvester admitted that when Schwarzenegger became famous, he saw him as a competitor, as per Wales Online. He said:
“Finally, something to motivate me. Because he is, dare I say it, competition, a threat, whatever word you wanna use. As soon as I saw him, it was like bang, two alphas hitting."
Arnold Schwarzenegger then agreed that their rivalry at the time had helped him grow professionally. Schwarzenegger will be seen in the upcoming Christmas action comedy film, The Man with the Bag.
