Rumors of a Midnight Sons project set in the MCU have been circulating on the internet for the past few years. For the uninitiated, the Midnight Sons are a team of superheroes in the Marvel Universe, much like the Avengers, but they deal with supernatural threats. Now, this week's Ironheart finale may have kicked the door open to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's supernatural side by introducing Mephisto.

It should be noted that Mephisto's involvement with the MCU was rumored for a while. In 2021, as WandaVision began streaming on Disney+, several fans were theorizing that the ultimate antagonist of the genre-bending series was none other than Mephisto; however, that did not happen. Fans had to wait till 2025 for the Satan of the Marvel Universe to physically appear in the MCU.

Right when Sacha Baron Cohen entered the frame in the first act of the Ironheart finale, fans were hoping for some sort of nod to related characters like Johnny Blaze's Ghost Rider, who frequently joins the Midnight Sons to take on Mephisto. Now, a recent rumor suggests that this feature film has found a new writer to work on the screenplay, but their name for name isn't revealed yet.

Explaining the new Midnight Sons rumor:

Known internet scooper DanielRPK/Daniel Richtman recently revealed a massive update on the Midnight Sons movie through his newsletter. In that newsletter, Richtman revealed that Marvel Studios is working on a feature film headlined by this supernatural team. An unnamed writer has been hired to write the screenplay for the movie.

If the movie were to follow the books, the team in the film would possibly consist of Blade, Doctor Strange, Ghost Rider, and other supernatural heroes. However, the most exciting rumor is that Midnight Sons' central antagonist would be none other than Sacha Baron Cohen's Mephisto. Moreover, it might be in this movie that we may get to see Satan in his natural red form, a glimpse of which we got in Ironheart.

Mephisto's reveal opens the supernatural side of the MCU:

The sixth episode of Ironheart, "The Past Is the Past", saw the debut of Sacha Baron Cohen's Mephisto. The episode confirms that Parker Robbins' magical hood belongs to Mephisto, who hands it over to the thief. But later, the devil abandons Parker in favor of offering a deal to his next target, none other than Riri Williams herself.

Ryan Coogler, who serves as an executive producer on the series, addressed Mephisto's debut in Ironheart:

“I just absolutely love that we’re not meeting him in ‘WandaVision’ or ‘Agatha [All Along].’ You’re meeting him through this stressed-out, young Black genius. When you watch the show, it’s like, ‘Oh, that was how you always were gonna meet him.’ It wasn’t gonna be in ‘Loki.’ That’s the trickster; that’s how he works. That’s where he’s gonna be: in a pizza shop in Chicago, like, where you would absolutely never expect him.”

Now that he has been officially revealed, it won't be surprising if Cohen indeed appears in a Midnight Sons project in the future. However, it is unknown if we will get this team-up movie immediately, or after Avengers: Secret Wars.
