TV host Seth Meyers paid a heartfelt tribute to director and producer Rob Reiner. On the December 15 episode of his talk show, Meyers said that although he did not know Rob and Michele quite well, he was lucky enough to have spent time with them. He also said:
“I had Rob here on the show for the first time a couple of months ago, and I could have talked to him for hours about his work, about his career.”
In September 2025, Rob Reiner was invited on Seth Meyers’s show, where the director spoke about Spinal Tap II: The End Continues. When Meyers asked what made him make the movie, Reiner said the motivation was money. He said:
“We were thinking we'll never do this again. We did it. It works. Let it alone. But then we looked, literally, I made a joke. But after 40 years with DVDs and videos and foreign sales, the four of us shared in 40% of the profits. And this is going to sound like a joke, but we each got $0.82 and I thought, that's a little low.”
Seth Meyers asked if there were any musicians who did not like the original movie. Rob Reiner said:
“Right at the beginning there were a number. You know, Steven Tyler from Aerosmith and, Axl Rose from Guns N' Roses and even Ozzy Osbourne, thought, ‘Oh, this is not right. They're making fun of us.’”
Seth Meyers talks about Trump’s post in the wake of Rob Reiner’s death
Meanwhile, paying tribute to Rob Reiner, Seth Meyers said that the late director had the ability to bring the best out of people. He said that even his films showed this quality. The TV host added:
“He loved being an audience and he loved making things for an audience. And he was just a person who was so full of love, and so was Michele. And you could tell how much they loved each other.”
Speaking about Reiner’s political beliefs, Meyers said:
“Rob was no fan of the president and because of that, the president was no fan of Rob's. This is something everyone knew, but the president still wanted to take the opportunity, just about 12 hours after Rob and Michele had been murdered in their own home. He wanted to take the opportunity to go on social media and post his thoughts about this tragedy.”
Seth Meyers said that Trump made the situation about himself. He said that Rob Reiner was allegedly murdered by one of his family members. He said if someone had an ounce of humanity, they would understand that the situation was tragic. Meyers mentioned:
“The President also took the time to accuse Rob of having Trump Derangement Syndrome. He wrote this part in all caps, as if that was the headline, the cause, what we should take away from this tragedy.”
Seth Meyers said he was around 11 or 12 when he first watched This Is Spinal Tap. He said at the time his ears perked up, knowing what comedy could feel like. Nevertheless, he felt he was lucky to have connected with Rob Reiner through his work.
