Remy Ma, whose recent online squabble with her ex-husband Papoose and his current girlfriend, boxer Claressa Shields, has now broken past their barrier to involve Nicki Minaj. Remy Ma and Nicki Minaj have a longstanding feud that began over ten years ago when Nicki Minaj seemingly took a dig at Remy Ma in her single, "Dirty Money."
At the moment, Remy Ma is in the midst of a legal battle for the completion of divorce proceedings with her ex-husband, Papoose. Apart from that, Claressa Shields, who had earlier talked about Remy Ma during her appearance on the Breakfast Club radio show, caused a ripple effect, leading to both Remy Ma and Papoose posting about each other on their social media.
According to the Shade Room, on 24 May, the former mixed martial artist messaged Nicki Minaj, writing, "Might as well come my the Fight!," inviting her to watch her match in Detroit against Lani Daniels. She later posted a screenshot of the one-sided conversation on her Instagram Stories. This move is now seen by many fans as an alleged attempted dig at Remy Ma.
More about Remy Ma and Nicki Minaj's feud, as Claressa Shields invites the latter to her fight
The feud between Nicki Minaj and Remy Ma began in 2007, when Nicki Minaj released her single "Dirty Money," where she seemingly took a dig at Remy Ma, who had earlier referred to herself as "the Queen of rap" in her first studio album, released in 2006. The lyrics of the song, obtained by TIME Magazine, read:
"Tell that b*tch with the crown to run it like Chris Brown/She won three rounds, I’mma need a hundred thou/Oh, y’all ain’t know? Bet y’all b*tches know now.”
Although not directly addressed by name, fans alleged that the song was an attempt to diss Remy Ma. Later in 2010, Remy Ma addressed the swirling rumors of an alleged feud between the two rappers, adding that she liked Nicki Minaj's music. During her interview on Hot 93.7, she said:
"Happy for her…I like Nicki. No animosity here…yet."
During another interview in 2010, Remy Ma talked about once confronting Nicki Minaj about the alleged diss track about her. She said:
"When I seen her at her party, I was like, ‘Yeah, what was that line about?' To this day, I think it was a stab at me. That’s what you do in rap, and I’m cool with that.”
In the next few years, whenever Remy Ma was asked about a possible feud between her and Nicki Minaj, she refused to acknowledge its existence, adding in another interview how Nicki Minaj had campaigned for her release when she was sentenced to eight years in prison for shooting her friend, Makeda Barnes-Joseph, according to Time. She said:
"Even when you get to people like Nicki, throughout my entire bid, numerous times I’ve seen interviews she’s done where she like, ‘Free Remy’ or ‘tell Rem holla at me. So, I could definitely say on my behalf, I haven’t gotten any shade from any of them. Old school, new school, nothing.”
But all of that changed in 2015 when, according to TIME Magazine, Remy Ma released a remix of Nicki Minaj's hit single, "Truffle Butter," where many of the lyrics were seemingly aimed at Nicki Minaj. The lyrics of the song read:
"I’m like in a minute let me body b—hes’ records/Yea, for the millions I will kill these pop h—s/Ain’t no one in these streets like me and potholes/’Bout to put yall all out of business, shop closed.”
The next year, Remy Ma released "Money Showers," where the Grammy-nominated rapper calls out another rapper for using the title of "Queen" without having done anything to deserve it.
The lyrics of the song goes:
“B—h claiming she the queen, what? Not hardly/Who the f–k gave you your crown b—h? Steve Harvey?
In 2017, Nicki Minaj released her new single, "Swalla," featuring Jason Derulo, followed by "Make Love" with Gucci Mane. According to TIME Magazine, soon after the release, fans started speculating that parts of the lyrics were aimed at Remy Ma. In "Swalla," Nicki Minaj claimed that she has given two years to her unnamed opponent, and now their "time's up." In her other single, Nicki Minaj took a dig at the album sales of Remy Ma's last project.
According to TIME Magazine, just two days later, in February 2017, Remy Ma released her new single, "Shether," out of the blue. In this diss track aimed directly at Nicki Minaj, she called out the rapper, asking when she would release her own tracks in response.
A few days later, on 2 March 2017, Remy Ma released another single, "Another One," once again taking a direct dig at Nicki Minaj. The lyrics of the song read:
"Now they so busy shooting videos, and I’m like nah/ Where the f–k is your song?/ I mean, come on.”
On 10 March, Nicki Minaj would release three consecutive diss tracks aimed at Remy Ma. Just three months later, in June, Remy Ma won the Best Female Hip Hop artist, ending Nicki Minaj's seven-year-long winning streak.
Since then, Remy Ma and Nicki Minaj have avoided commenting on each other's lives or work, until now, when Claressa Shields brought Nicki Minaj back into the conversation at a time when she is in an online confrontation with Remy Ma. Remy Ma has yet to respond to this new move by Claressa Shields.
