Vanderpump Rules star Scheana Shay opens up about dating Eddie Cibrian in her memoir; says she "didn't see a single red flag"

Vanderpump Rules alum Scheana Shay is opening up about several details of her private life with the upcoming release of her memoir, My Good Side. In an excerpt from the book shared with Entertainment Weekly on July 2, the reality star turned author shared the details of her entanglement with actor Eddie Cibrian.

In her tell-all, Scheana Shay alleges to have unknowingly participated in an affair with Cibrian, who was married to Brandi Glanville at the time. Shay was 21 years old at the time and claims she moved to LA to

“Make a name for myself in the entertainment industry, whether that was as an actress, a TV host, or a news reporter.”

While she admits to having been swept off her feet upon meeting Eddie shortly thereafter, Scheana Shay admits to not seeing obvious flaws in their dynamic,

“I didn’t see a single red flag, especially since we weren’t exclusive.”

In reality, Cibrian was married to Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Brandi Glanville from 2001 until 2010. Glanville’s Beverly Hills castmate Lisa Vanderpump would eventually get her own show, Vanderpump Rules, which debuted on Bravo in 2013. Many believe the affair helped market the show and garnered a great deal of its eventual overall success.

For further context, when Scheana Shay first arrived in Los Angeles in 2006, she worked at a “private member’s cigar lounge and restaurant” where “every A-list celebrity, director, writer, and actor hung out”. A few months later, Scheana and Cibrian had their first encounter when he came in to play a game of poker; this would soon become a regular part of the actor’s routine.

On their first encounter, Scheana Shay writes,

“If you were to ask me when I was growing up what my exact type was, to a tee it was Eddie—tall, dark, and handsome, with dimples. The second we made eye contact, he smiled at me with those dimples, and I melted. How could I not? He’s undeniably a gorgeous human.”

While the pair did not have immediate romantic sparks, Scheana Shay immediately saw potential, with no obvious roadblocks in the way.

“Eddie was the sweetest, funniest, most charismatic, consummate gentleman I’d ever met. He always made me feel like I was the only girl in the room when I was working. This was pre–social media, so it wasn’t like he was posting pics of his family in matching pajamas in front of a Christmas tree.”

Shay then clarified the extent of their relationship, continuing to praise Cibrian for the way he treated her.

“To be clear, Eddie wasn’t my boyfriend (at least not exclusively). But we did start a physical relationship at the end of 2006, which was a weekly booty call. The frightening thing is that I totally thought I could end up with Eddie; he looked how I’d always imagined my future husband would, and he treated me well.”

On being unable to see beneath the veneer of Cibrian’s facade, Shay shares that she was simply too young and naive,

“It really felt like we were building something. Did I think it was weird that I never went to his house? No! He lived in Calabasas, supposedly. And I certainly wasn’t making the trek to Calabasas in 2007, when Ubers didn’t exist, and I had less than $1,000 to my name. It was so much easier and more fun to hang out in Beverly Hills or Hollywood, and my place was closer and more convenient.”

While still married to Glanville, Cibrian also dated country singer LeAnn Rimes. Cibrian and Rimes went on to marry in 2011 and remain together to date.
