Simone Biles has cemented herself as perhaps one of the greatest female gymnasts of all time. The awe-inspiring athlete celebrated Olympic Day, which celebrates the birth of the modern Olympic Games. It is also a commemoration of the 1948 revival of the games after the previous Olympic Games were interrupted by World War II. Marking the day on June 23, Simone Biles went on a trip down memory lane on her social media via Instagram.

The 11-time Olympic medalist shared several slides on her Instagram stories, all fond memories of her and her teammates competing at the Olympic Games. Her first post was a video of captured of Simone Biles and now-retired Olympians Aly Raisman and Laurie Hernandez celebrating the news that they made it to the 2016 Olympic team. Her stories then take a chronological look at Biles in Olympic competition over the years.

After adding a snap of her with all of her medals from the 2024 games (three gold medals won for her performances on all-around and vault and the Team USA win, as well as one silver medal for floor exercise), Biles wrote a message over a picture of the Eiffel Tower, summing up her feelings about the special day and her times representing USA at the games,

“okay I'm done, so blessed to go to 3 olympic games with team usa.”

It’s clear her Olympic resume is amongst the biggest accomplishments of her professional career, and Simone Biles looks back at her achievements to date fondly.

Simone Biles’ Olympic career

Simone Biles competed in her first Olympics in 2016, and has participated in 3 games in total (2020,2024). In 2016, Biles was named to the American team for the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics, alongside Gabby Douglas, Laurie Hernandez, Madison Kocian, and Aly Raisman. She was instrumental in helping the U.S. team qualify in first place for the final also qualified as the top gymnast in four of the five individual finals. Ultimately, she won a total of 5 medals and was elected as the flag bearer for the closing ceremonies.

In the 2020 Olympic Games, held in Tokyo in 2021 due to the COVID pandemic, Biles did not fare as well. Her results were not up to her usual lofty standards, and she withdrew from team competition, citing mental health issues. She was heavily criticized for this decision and seemed mentally checked out, as reported by multiple outlets. She left Tokyo with 2 medals but a whole lot to prove to herself. Still, her platform helped put emphasis on the serious discussion of mental health in the sports world.

At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Simone Biles became the fourth American female artistic gymnast to compete at three Olympic Games. She treated the world to an incredible performance, garnering 4 medals in total, one shy of her record in Rio. Biles has also been a force to be reckoned with at the World Championships, tallying a total of 30 World Championship medals in all.
