Brad Pitt’s impressive driving skills have just received the highest of praise on the set of his upcoming summer blockbuster F1. When speaking to PEOPLE, the film’s director Joseph Kosinski shared that Formula 1 pro Lewis Hamilton praised Pitt’s hands-on approach to the practical stunt work in the film:
"I had Lewis Hamilton drive with Brad right at the beginning to kind of see his level of skill. And Lewis was really impressed that Brad kind of had that talent right out of the gate."
Hamilton not only appears in the upcoming Apple Studios feature but also co-produced it. Kosinski credited Brad Pitt's extensive experience on motorcycles for giving him "a feel for the car" in F1.

More about Brad Pitt in F1
Later in the PEOPLE interview, Kosinski shared that the entire process of making the film was easier since he knew that Brad Pitt “was a skilled driver." Still, the safety of the actors involved was given the foremost priority.
"We had the best drivers in the world around him, training him. He had been on the simulator. So we did everything the right way. We were in [a Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile]-approved car — this wasn't a movie car. This is a real race car with the safety cell and everything. So we were doing it the right way."
The director continued by adding context to the level of risk at play despite all the precautions in place:
"But still, yeah, there's a point where you're like, 'This is really intense.’ "
The director capped off his conversation with PEOPLE by saying the most difficult part of the process was getting Brad Pitt out of the cockpit once the film had wrapped:
"The saddest day for Brad was when we said, 'It's a wrap,' and he had to climb out of the car. He just loved it. [Brad and Damson] both had the best time."
F1 releases in theatres on June 27.
Apart from his now months-long promotional tour to push the film, Brad Pitt has been staying busy. It seems as though the actor and rumored girlfriend Ines de Ramon are happy and thriving, as they recently made their red carpet debut.
In a more alarming report, the actor’s Los Feliz home was broken into late on June 25 through a front window. Three unknown assailants broke in and "ransacked the location," according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
