The latest Superman in the DC Universe, David Corenswet, didn't exactly fall into the role of the Son of Krypton that easily. Reportedly, it took him quite a lot of deliberation and thinking, and a little bit of hesitation to take on the mantle of Superman. Director James Gunn has previously opened up on his casting of Corenswet, even hailing him as the best physical action star he has ever seen. And from what we can see in the previews, he's definitely nailing the part, bringing in a fresher, newer touch to the superhero's portrayal.

However, as per reports, Corenswet did take his sweet time in deciding if he really wanted the role. In a recent interview with Collider, Corenswet revealed how he hesitated before being sure he wanted to commit to it. Talking about his thinking process behind his acceptance, the actor said:

“I always hesitate. Hesitate is not quite the right word, but I paused, and I really thought about it. It was not a no brainer to say yes to it. It took a lot of my brains, and a lot of thinking, and a lot of conversations with my loved ones to see whether this was a thing that was worth doing."

He then added:

“I’ve been told before, ‘this is going to change your life. And then nothing really changes. You still gotta eat breakfast, you still gotta go to sleep at a reasonable hour. So I was skeptical. But mostly, the answer ended up being: it was at least an adventure worth taking. And a risk worth taking.”

David Corenswet stepping into the red-and-blue suit feels like a full-circle moment not just for him, but for all Superman fans who have been waiting for the DC superhero's revival. A Juilliard alum with serious acting chops, Corenswet isn’t playing Superman as a symbol of perfection. He’s playing him as a man, kind, conflicted, deeply human.

Directed by James Gunn, Superman (2025) kicks off the DC Universe’s new era, “Gods and Monsters.” But don’t expect another brooding demigod with a savior complex. Gunn’s vision leans into hope, warmth, and quiet strength — qualities that haven’t been front and center in a Superman film for a while. And Corenswet? He arguably fits Gunn's vision like a glove.

The cast is stacked. Rachel Brosnahan plays Lois Lane while Nicholas Hoult brings cold charisma to Lex Luthor. Isabela Merced and Edi Gathegi step in as Hawkgirl and Mister Terrific, adding range and depth to this new world.

Visually, the film is going for a classic over a gritty look. Think bright skies, clean lines, and the golden-age charm of All-Star Superman. It’s a modern story with an old soul, and Corenswet will hopefully carry on the mantle with responsibility.

Superman will be in theaters on July 11, 2025.
