While the DCU kicked off with Creature Commandos Season 1, which streamed in December 2024, its biggest test comes next week as Superman flies into the theaters. It must be noted that the new universe was created after DC finally pulled the plug on the DC Extended Universe that was established by Zack Snyder through 2013's Man of Steel.

Now, as the new entry in the DC Universe or DCU looms over us, fans have been antsy about the future of the new cinematic universe. One of the information that fans are currently seeking is the possibility of the DC Trinity, i.e., Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman sharing the screen together like they did in the DCEU. Now, James Gunn's comments seemingly confirm plans for Trinity in the new universe.

What did James Gunn say about the Trinity in DCU?

In one of the recent red carpet premieres of Superman, James Gunn was asked about the future of the DCU. Deadline, the renowned entertainment website, asked the Superman director and DC Studios about the Trinity in the DC Universe. responding positively, Gunn's exact words to the Deadline reporter were:

“Of course! Yeah. But not in the next movie … you have to remember that all the stuff is talks in my head … so there’s a lot of chatter in my head that does a lot of things. But the DCU is chatter in my head, not ‘talks’.”

Therefore, it means that as of now, plans for the Trinity in the DC Universe are in the nascent stages. It is worth noting that just last month, Gunn confirmed in the Entertainment Weekly interview that a Wonder Woman movie is being written in DC Studios. Therefore, for now, it is better to wait for an official confirmation from their side on this universe's version of the Trinity.

Moreover, James Gunn's comments on the DC Universe version of Batman suggest that the role hasn't been cast yet.

Explaining the DCU Batman comments:

On June 16, 2025, James Gunn sat down for an interview with Rolling Stone's Senior Writer, Brian Hiatt, in which the DC Studios chief touched upon a wide range of things related to the new DC Universe. Of these, the most important part of the interview was when the director broached the subject of the DCU Batman, who is set to appear in The Brave and the Bold, the movie Andy Muschietti is attached to direct.

Revealing that Batman hasn't been cast for this new universe as of now, Gunn revealed that he was facing challenges with The Brave and the Bold. The filmmaker said:

"Batman’s my biggest issue in all of DC right now, personally. And it’s not — I’m not writing Batman, but I am working with the writer of Batman and trying to get it right, because he’s incredibly important to DC, as is Wonder Woman. So outside of the stuff that I’m doing in the projects that are actively going, our two priorities are finishing our Wonder Woman and our Batman scripts."

Therefore, considering only one character from the Trinity has been cast, it would be safe to assume that Gunn would prefer a finished script first before casting Batman or Wonder Woman, which will take some time. However, that doesn't mean that we won't get a Trinity project. It's just that we may have to wait for a while.
