Betsy Gay, the former child actress from The Little Rascals, passed away at the age of 96, on June 13, 2025. She portrayed the role of Effie, Alfalfa’s girlfriend, in the series initially known as Our Gang Comedies, a series of comedy films, according to a report in Variety. She stayed with the group for more than four years before accepting roles in film projects in 1938.

According to a report in FandomWire, The Little Rascals, created by Hal Roach, ran from 1922 to 1944. Betsy Gay first appeared in the show’s 1936 short The Pinch Singer, followed by Arbor Day (1936), Our Gang Follies of 1938 (1937), and Came the Brawn (1938), all short films of the series.

Some of the major actors from the famous 1930s series, including Carl Switzer, Eugene Jackson, Ernie Morrison, Dickie Moore, Darla Hood, and Jack Davis, have passed away. Only six actors from The Little Rascals are alive today: Sidney Kibrick, Margaret Kerry, Priscilla Montgomery, Patsy Currier, Elaine Merk, and Clyde Willson.

Margaret Kerry

She was born on May 11, 1929, in Springfield, Illinois, USA, per her IMDb profile. She began working at the age of four. She is the fourth child of John Riley McCarthy III and Mary Eleanor Henderson.

She played the role of Peggy Lynch in three original Our Gang/The Little Rascals comedies. She was the Disney animators' reference model for Tinker Bell in Walt Disney’s Peter Pan. Priscilla Montgomery Clark

She was born in 1929 and raised in Alhambra, California. She played a minor role as a female background dancer, noted as “Girl with ‘I’ on Sweater” in a scene in The Little Rascals 1930 series, according to IMDb. She reportedly played an uncredited role as a Munchkin child dancer in The Wizard of Oz (1939) when she was nine years old.

During a November 2024 interview with People magazine, she was 95 years old. She told the outlet about her passion for dancing and that she never aspired to become an actress. She is now a widow and dealing with some health concerns.


Patsy Currier

According to her IMDb profile, she was born on November 4, 1930, in Brooklyn, New York. She is known for her roles in Came the Brawn (1938) and The New Pupil (1940). Little is known about her current whereabouts.

Elaine Merk

She appeared in The Little Rascals’ Reunion in Rhythm film in 1937. She was born on December 19, 1930, in Colorado, USA. In December 2024, she turned 94, according to a post shared by Mysteries of Oz on Instagram. She played a child Munchkin in The Wizard of Oz. However, her current whereabouts are unclear from available reports.


Clyde Willson

He is currently 90 and was born on May 7, 1935, in Omaha, Nebraska. He is an actor known for his roles in Andy Hardy Meets Debutante (1940), The Big Premiere (1940), and Waldo's Last Stand (1940).
