The film is directed by Michael Pearce, who won a BAFTA award for his feature directorial debut, Beast (2017). It is written by Brad Ingelsby, who served as the creator of the HBO mystery thriller miniseries, Mare of Easttown, starring Kate Winslet in the lead role. That project earned him two Emmy nominations.

Julianne Moore stars as Kate Garrett, a single woman who spends most of her time on her peaceful farmland. She recently lost her wife, and the grief weighs heavily on her heart. Meanwhile, she also needs to take care of her young daughter, Claire, who is recovering from her addiction. Suddenly, Kate finds herself in even more trouble as Claire shows up, unannounced, with blood on her clothes.

Moore brings a mature groundedness to her performance despite the shocking twists and turns in this genre film. That is hardly surprising considering the depth and dramatic range she has shown in her previous performances, which include her Oscar-winning turn in Still Alice (2015).
