Sydney Sweeney joins Juliane Moore in the latest mystery thriller from Apple Studios, Echo Valley. The cast also includes Fiona Shaw, Domhnall Gleeson, Edmund Donovan, Kyle MacLachlan, and more.
Here's the plot synopsis, per IMDb,
"Kate (Moore) is dealing with a personal tragedy while owning and training horses in Echo Valley, an isolated and picturesque place, when her daughter, Claire (Sweeney), arrives at her doorstep, frightened, trembling, and covered in someone else's blood."
Moore and Sweeney play a mother and a daughter in a strained relationship. Sweeney's Claire is a recovering addict, and her struggles put a strain on Moore's Kate.
As a single mother who recently lost her wife, Kate stays emotionally distant from almost everyone in her life and seeks peace on her farm. Yet, it all changes when Claire puts another burden on her shoulders, which she may never be able to recover from.
The film is directed by Michael Pearce, who won a BAFTA award for his feature directorial debut, Beast (2017). It is written by Brad Ingelsby, who served as the creator of the HBO mystery thriller miniseries, Mare of Easttown, starring Kate Winslet in the lead role. That project earned him two Emmy nominations.
Ingelsby's latest script takes place in a similarly idyllic setting that offers the calm before the chaos, which ensues in Kate's life. Let's learn more about the cast and characters of Echo Valley on Apple.
Here is the central cast of Echo Valley on Apple TV+
1. Julianne Moore as Kate Garrett

Julianne Moore stars as Kate Garrett, a single woman who spends most of her time on her peaceful farmland. She recently lost her wife, and the grief weighs heavily on her heart. Meanwhile, she also needs to take care of her young daughter, Claire, who is recovering from her addiction. Suddenly, Kate finds herself in even more trouble as Claire shows up, unannounced, with blood on her clothes.
Moore brings a mature groundedness to her performance despite the shocking twists and turns in this genre film. That is hardly surprising considering the depth and dramatic range she has shown in her previous performances, which include her Oscar-winning turn in Still Alice (2015).
2. Fiona Shaw as Jessie Oliver

Fiona Shaw plays Kate's friend, Jessie Oliver, who stays by her side through thick and thin. She becomes crucial in helping Kate heal from her emotional pain and trauma, especially after Claire drops a bombshell.
Before playing a strong-willed confidante to Moore's character, Shaw had a long-spanning acting career in theater, film, and television. She was a part of the Harry Potter universe as Aunt Petunia. Some viewers might know her from her more recent work from shows like Andor, Killing Eve, and Bad Sisters.
3. Sydney Sweeney as Claire Garrett

Sydney Sweeney stars as Claire, whose addiction-related struggles strain her relationship with Kate, her mother. It becomes the central emotional thread of the film, which shows Kate's willingness to go to any lengths to help and protect Claire.
Although widely known for her explosive performance in HBO's Euphoria, Sweeney has also shown her dramatic range through her performances in Reality (2023), Immaculate (2024), and the first season of Mike White's The White Lotus.
4. Domhnall Gleeson as Jackie Lyman

Domhnall Gleeson plays Jackie, a drug dealer, who broadens Claire's emotional rift with Kate. He becomes the central antagonist in both their lives as he works purely by his self-serving notions.
It is a decidedly darker role for this Irish actor, who is largely known for his roles in About Time (2013), Ex Machina (2014), and Anna Karenina (2012), where he is the farthest from being the troublemaker.
