F1 is reportedly one of the most anticipated films of 2025. The sports drama film is directed by Joseph Kosinski, who had earlier helmed the Tom Cruise starrer Top Gun: Maverick. The film had its world premiere at New York's Radio City Music Hall on June 26, 2025, and will be released theatrically by Warner Bros. Pictures on June 27, 2025. Here's the official synopsis as per IMDb:
"A Formula One driver comes out of retirement to mentor and team up with a younger driver."
Ahead of its release, the film's projected box-office numbers seem better than M3GAN 2.0.
F1 box-office projections are more promising than M3GAN 2.0
F1 will be clashing with M3GAN 2.0 at the box office on June 27, 2025. Both are different stories from different genres, yet it appears that the Brad Pitt starrer might get the upper hand at the ticket window. As per The Hollywood Reporter, the sports drama film is expected to mint around $40 million to $50 million on its first day domestically. Warner Bros Pictures, the studio behind it, is projecting $30 million.
They are also predicting that the Joseph Kosinski-directed film will gross around $75 million globally. This will take the total opening day tally to somewhere around $100-115 million. The film has been made on a budget of around $200 million, sans marketing. The film will be getting a wide release on IMAX screens across the globe, along with other large-format cinema screens like Dolby Cinema.
Meanwhile, Universal Pictures projects that M3GAN 2.0 will earn in the ballpark of $20 million or more on the opening day. This is slightly less than the domestic collection of the first film, M3GAN, which was $30.4 million. It eventually became a commercial success, grossing $181.8 million against a budget of $12 million. But this time around, the film is at loggerheads with F1, and the latter seems to have an advantage at the ticket window.
F1's story is written by Joseph Kosinski and Ehren Kruger, while Kruger also wrote the screenplay. The film is about a retired Formula One driver who decides to mentor a young guy. It stars Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, and Kim Bodnia.
On the other hand, M3GAN 2.0 is a sequel to 2022's M3GAN. This time around, the evil AI doll is brought back to life to stop a military-created humanoid that goes rogue. The film is directed by Gerard Johnstone, who has also written its story with Akela Cooper. Allison Williams and Amie Donald reprise their roles as Gemma and M3GAN, the doll from the first film. Before its release, the film had its world premiere in New York on June 24, 2025. Universal Pictures is releasing it on June 27.
While both films are different from each other, F1 has a slightly better edge at the box office so far because of Brad Pitt's star power and Kosinski's track record.
