Daytime Emmys to pick a Fan Favorite

Daytime Emmys to pick a Fan Favorite

The 2014 Daytime Emmys will be the most social media savvy in the award's 41-year history. Fans can take part by voting for a Fan Favorite award.

This year's Daytime Emmys broadcast will have a huge social media component. In addition to being able to tweet along with your favorite soapcentral.com columnists, the Daytime Emmy ceremony itself will allow fans to choose a "Fan Favorite." While the winner will not receive an actual Emmy award, there will be a trophy and, along with it, plenty of bragging rights.

Of the ten nominees, two are from the world of soaps. Both are from General Hospital, both are nominated for Emmys this year, and they are dating in real life! Chad Duell (Michael Corinthos) and Kristen Alderson (Kiki Jerome) were the only soap stars to make the cut.

The other nominees include Ellen Degeneres, Nick Cannon, Ashley Tisdale, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Guiliana Rancic, Steve Harvey, Sharon Osbourne, and Terrence Jenkins.

This is not the first time that the Daytime Emmys have allow fans to weigh in with a fan-selected award, but this is the first time that the voting will be done exclusively through social media. In 2002, fans were allowed to pick the winners in two special categories: Favorite Villain and Favorite Couple. Days of our Lives' Sami Brady (played by Alison Sweeney) picked up the villain honors, and DAYS' Bo and Hope Brady were named favorite couple.

If you'd like to cast your vote for your favorite, visit the Daytime Emmy web site at daytimeemmys.net. That is also the place to watch this year's Daytime Emmy ceremony, which will be streamed live online on Sunday, June 22, beginning at 8pm Eastern/5pm Pacific.

Which of these ten celebrities is your favorite? Are you going to cast a vote? Let us know. You can share your thoughts in the Comments section below this article or you can click here to send us feedback.
