At the hospital, Marlena picked up Rachel from a therapy session. Rachel asked Marlena if the therapist ever disclosed anything from the sessions. Marlena reassured her granddaughter that a fear for Rachel’s or someone else’s safety would be the only reason for the doctor to break confidentiality.

Marlena was curious why Rachel had asked, and the girl reluctantly confided everything she’d told Thomas. Taken aback but reining in her disapproval, Marlena wondered why Rachel had done it. Rachel said she’d been mad at Thomas and claimed she had felt guilty after the fact.

In EJ’s hospital office, EJ raged at his electrician over the phone and hung up on the man after blaming him for the blackout. A downtrodden Cat came into the office, and EJ promptly observed her bad mood. Cat told him about Chad’s break-up with her. EJ offered his sympathies, but Cat affirmed she needed work as a distraction. When she brought up her lunch with Gwen and began talking about the construction site, EJ tensed. But after Cat proposed she get a tour of the facility in order to better promote it with business callers, EJ agreed to the request.

Later, EJ concluded his tour of the site in front of the lab. After Cat asked about the secure door and the hole in the wall, EJ claimed the security measures were to protect medical supplies. Cat took note when EJ talked up the lab being “impenetrable” once construction was fully completed.

After the tour was complete, EJ and Cat returned to the office. He thanked her for being a model employee and left for lunch, urging Cat to do the same. Cat stayed behind on the pretense of catching up on work. But when she was alone, she went back down to the secret room, took pictures, and made her way through the hole Leo had created in the wall.

At the Horton house, Chad spoke with Jennifer and revealed he’d ended things with Cat. Jennifer was pleased with the news but still angry at Chad for letting the relationship get romantic. Chad defended Cat and said Thomas had liked her. Jennifer let him know that was no longer the case. In fact, she claimed, Thomas had asked to move in with Jack and her. Chad challenged Jennifer on whether Thomas had gotten the idea from her.

Jennifer admitted that Thomas had overheard her talking about living with her grandparents when she was younger because she hadn’t gotten along with her parents. Chad downplayed Thomas’ request, but Jennifer said Thomas had meant it. Chad pledged the move would never happen. Jennifer defended that she didn’t have any intention of taking the kids from their father, since Abigail would never approve. But Abigail would also not approve of Chad’s involvement with a woman like Cat.

The tense argument was interrupted by Marlena and Rachel’s arrival. Marlena apologized for the intrusion and told Chad and Jennifer that Rachel had something she wanted to say to Chad and Thomas. Chad explained that Thomas was upstairs but urged Rachel to continue. Rachel stressed how sorry she was for hurting Thomas. Chad forced a smile and accepted her apology. He invited Rachel to go upstairs and see Thomas.

Upstairs, Thomas was glumly playing a video game when he heard a knock at the door. After he realized it was Rachel and not his dad, he let her inside. Rachel gave her apology to Thomas, but he said he was glad she’d told him. With a slight smile, Thomas informed Rachel that his dad had broken up with Cat. Rachel’s demeanor changed, and she suggested that Thomas needed to make sure Chad and Cat stayed broken up.

Rachel’s comment piqued Thomas’ curiosity. She bragged about how she had busted up her dad’s relationships with Chloe and with Ava. Better yet, both women had left town. Rachel signaled to her cousin that as long as Cat was nearby, Thomas’ dad could always go back to the woman.

Back downstairs, Jennifer exchanged pleasantries with Marlena and excused herself to meet with Jack. Marlena mentioned the visible tension to Chad once Jennifer left. He acknowledged that Jennifer was not happy with him because of Cat. Chad opened up about the evolution of his relationship with Cat. He thanked Marlena for being Cat’s advocate during the fallout of the situation with Clyde.

Marlena suggested Chad give his family time to see Cat from a different perspective, as Chad himself had done. Rachel came back downstairs and indicated she’d worked things out with Thomas. She apologized to Chad again before departing with Marlena.

Chad then called Cat to check in with her and express his regret for how their relationship had ended. Thomas eavesdropped on the exchange from the stairs. After Chad ended the call, Thomas approached. While Chad was hopeful that his son had forgiven him, Thomas announced that he couldn’t and wouldn’t live in the same town as Cat.

Meanwhile, in Horton Town Square, Jennifer sat by her grandparents’ plaque and asked for guidance about how to do what was best for her grandkids.

At the dorms, Tate frantically tried to contact Holly by phone. Unsuccessful, he started to rush out the door – only to be met by Brady, who stressed he needed to talk with Tate about something important. As Tate protested that he needed to leave, Brady finally blurted out the truth: Tate was not the father of Sophia’s baby…and Brady had proof. He came inside the room and explained to Tate his initial suspicions about Tesoro and his subsequent secret DNA test. Brady further explained that he hadn’t told Tate because he hadn’t wanted to give his son false hope.

When the DNA test had come back with a negative match for Tate, Brady had remained suspicious. He elaborated that a separate DNA test had confirmed a biological match between Sophia and Tesoro. Tate absorbed the news and said he didn’t know how to feel. Suddenly, he brightened and insisted he needed to see Holly because he could make things right. Tate hugged his dad and made a beeline for the mansion.

Later, Brady met with Marlena at the Brady Pub. He filled her in on the latest happenings with Tate and Sophia. Brady expressed hope that finally having answers would be a good thing for Tate. Rachel returned to the table as EJ entered. Rachel immediately grew standoffish when her uncle greeted her. Brady, who also side-eyed EJ, was happy to spirit his daughter away.

EJ joined Marlena and pondered Rachel’s strong reaction to him. Marlena believed Rachel was subconsciously skittish around EJ because of her repressed memory, which led EJ to muse what would happen if Rachel eventually remembered shooting him.

At the Kiriakis mansion, Holly prepared with Maggie for her trip to the airport. Maggie promised her granddaughter that Holly would always have a home at the mansion and in Salem. Holly in turn promised that she had learned her lessons and wouldn’t get into any more trouble with drugs and alcohol. Maggie told Holly how proud she was of her and pulled the girl in for a heartfelt hug.

Later, Tate rushed into the mansion only to discover Holly had already gone to the airport. He implored Maggie to tell him if Holly’s flight had left yet. Maggie confirmed that it hadn’t. When Maggie couldn’t get in touch with Holly by phone, Tate rebuffed Maggie's attempts to keep him from going to the airport.

At the airport, Holly bid adieu to Salem. Just as she prepared to board the plane, however, a breathless Tate ran through the gates. He quickly explained he had bought a ticket for the chance to speak with Holly. She was stunned but remained insistent that Tate couldn’t go with her. Tate corrected that he wanted Holly to stay in Salem, then he cleared up the miscommunication that had led Holly to believe he’d slept with Sophia. He vowed that he’d never cheat on her.

Holly was relieved that nothing had happened between Tate and Sophia, but she said it didn’t change the connection that would always exist between the two because of the baby. Tate cut her off and shocked Holly with the news that he wasn’t the father of Sophia’s baby, and a DNA test had proven it. While he had a million questions, his only priority in that moment was Holly, and he declared nothing stood in their way. Tate begged Holly to stay. She answered him with a passionate kiss.
