Who is Ginkaku in the Naruto Series?

Naruto's most menacing villains often arise from the shadows of the past, bearing legends that dispatch trembles down veteran shinobi spines. Rare names strike fear, like the Gold and Silver Brothers, whose crimes against the Second Hokage became the stuff of nightmares.

Ginkaku stands as one half of this infamous duo in Naruto, a silver-haired demon who literally ate his way to power by consuming Nine-Tails flesh. This Kumogakure criminal wields weapons of the Sage of Six Paths himself and possesses chakra that rivals tailed beasts. His appearance during the Fourth Shinobi World War proved that some legends are better left buried.

Ginkaku's saga initiates during the First Raikage's era in the Naruto timeline. Ginkaku and Kinkaku were part of an elite squad given the mission to hunt down the Nine-Tailed Beast. The mission took a random turn when both brothers were swallowed by the massive tailed beast during their confrontation.

Rather than perishing inside Kurama, the duo survived through an extraordinary feat. They consumed the beast’s flesh while trapped in its stomach for two weeks. This desperate act of survival fundamentally changed their bodies and granted them access to the Nine-Tails’ chakra. Their ordeal ended when they caused enough internal damage to force the beast to expel them.

The consumption of tailed beast flesh left permanent marks on Ginkaku’s appearance. He emerged from Kurama resembling a miniature version of the Nine-Tails itself. His skin took on a grey tone, and distinctive whisker-like markings appeared on his face, similar to those seen on Naruto Uzumaki.

Ginkaku had pale eyes with dark eye whites and long silver hair that ended in noticeable dark streaks. Two horn-like protrusions grew from his head, giving him a demonic appearance. He dressed in Kumogakure’s typical gear, with a purple outfit, a flak jacket outlined in black, and a ‘silver’ kanji mark on his right shoulder.

Legendary Weapons and Abilities of Ginkaku in Naruto

The brothers’ greatest asset in the Naruto series came from wielding the five Treasured Tools of the Sage of Six Paths. These legendary weapons require enormous amounts of chakra to operate effectively. Most shinobi would die attempting to use even one of these artifacts, but Ginkaku and Kinkaku possessed sufficient power to wield multiple tools simultaneously.

Ginkaku’s main tools in combat were the Benihisago gourd, the Shichiseiken sword, and the Kōkinjō rope. By combining these tools, he could capture opponents’ souls through their spoken words. The Bashōsen fan gave him the ability to use all five basic chakra elements in battle. His kenjutsu skills in Naruto were exceptional, enabling him to clash with elite swordsmen like Darui.

During the Naruto series’ climactic war arc, Ginkaku was resurrected through Edo Tensei reincarnation jutsu. He emerged alongside his brother to face the Allied Shinobi Forces’ First Division. Their reputation alone struck fear into veteran warriors who remembered their legendary crimes.

Despite his cruel methods, Ginkaku maintained a deep bond with his brother Kinkaku. This relationship proved to be both his greatest strength and ultimate weakness. When separated during battle, his desperation to call for his brother’s help became the key to his downfall, as “Kinkaku” was his most spoken word.
